Someone said.. I don't believe in sayings/quotes.. just say what you want to say..
It is so true, because there are sayings/quotes that can say almost anything, or rather you can find one to say what you want to say, and say it with more confidence and assurance. Because someone said it before!!
Like for instance: 'Distance makes the heart grow fonder' says quite the contrary of 'Out of sight out of mind'.
and then 'Birds of a feather flock together' but 'Similarities create friendship's while differences hold them together'
How about 'One loyal friend is worth ten thousand relatives' and the fact that 'Blood is thicker than water'..
A Chinese proverb ( I think) says..
When you have only two pennies left in the world, buy a loaf of bread with one, and a lily with the other, while in Hindi we say jitni chadar utna paon failana (meaning spread your legs out only as much as your blanket)
While 'Losers quit when they're tired. Winners quit when they've won' for some 'If you cant beat them, join them'
Socrates said, 'The only good is knowledge and the only evil is ignorance' but we all know 'ignorance is bliss'!!!

True ..... but then, these are, in
each instance, two quotes that are seemingly contradictory ........ but there are many such quotes which are in itself a contradiction in terms or a contradiction in ideas .......
Take for instance ....
"Be careful what you wish for, it might come true."
"Free love is too expensive."
"I must be cruel only to be kind."
"A yawn is a silent shout."
"Man is condemned to be free."
"To lead the people, walk behind them."

hi anon.. Thx for those.. My point was that a quote does not necessarily add more weight to what one is saying.. as one could find quite contradictory quotes..
