We have family from India visiting and it feels great to have someone other than the ones we are used to at our home.. They will inevitably leave behind a little of themselves.. memories hidden in corners of home that will bring them back here in our thoughts..
However, I am always forced to look at Zurich and Switzerland through the eyes of the visitors.. the clean roads, the transport system that runs like clockwork, the clean fresh air the safety and security, the hassle free travel and sight seeing, and last but not the least the sheer natural beauty!!!
Comments about the beauty and conveniences in Zurich often make me take a rain check on how happy we are here.. and the answer I come up is always the same.. We should be, shouldn't we? there is no reason not to be, is there? A moment later my thoughts turn to home .. in India and Bangalore. The crowded streets, the nightmarish traffic, the smells and sounds of the market, the fruit and vegetable vendors, family and friends, the buzzing workplace, the travel, the breakfast at an udippi joint close to home, the gossip at the hair dressers, the wanderings on crowded alleys filled with the sounds of life, of colourful clothes, of the dot that adorned my forehead so often, of the bangles that tinkled and the flowing dupatta, of the raindrops that washed the big acacia trees clean and fresh, of the smell of rain on the parched earth...
We are happy here, a kind of organised and efficient happiness that allows you to smile, but doesn't let you feel the tears roll down your cheeks from fits of laughter and the anguish and agony of hurt and disappointment the next instant.. I wonder why??

So very true... I watch movies and wonder why I don't go out with friends and eat golgappas on the street. I see one such shop and start complaining about the hygiene levels in India... I think I tend to miss out on the moment and prefer thinking in terms of things past or around the corner... :-(
Realisation is the first step. I guess.. So there is still hope for you!! :)
For the golgappa experience.. dont observe too much.. what the eyes do not see the heart does not bleed!! Just eat it and maja madi!!
Hmm ... Eroteme I would warn against taking that advice of Musings. I did that and on returning back from India had a severe case of Jaundice. Thats not the best, methinks!
I thought about the same things and I think the difference is the space which we want around us is different from what we have in India.
You are right Pilgrim.. But if one ventures to a golgappa roadside joint then the advice is not to be keenly observant!!
I am not sure i completely understand your comment about the sapce around us.. but may be all we need is time. Dont know!
