Magic of Christmas...

A very special Christmas in my life was in 2002 Dec. We had just moved into a new home. I was at peace after a long time. The kids and me went about setting up the Christmas tree and the crib with baby Jesus in all enthusiasm. P my daughter was just over 4 years old. She was full of questions and P my son about 10 then, had all the answers. It was an interesting interaction, watching her shoot the questions at him and he proudly obliging..providing all the answers..

Why is baby Jesus sleeping on this bed of hay.. who are these people visiting the baby.. are these his mom and dad.. etc. P my son explained under what circumstances baby Jesus was born, how people knew he would be the saviour and the star that was pinned to the crib was in fact the one that showed the kings the way to the manger...

Finally the tree was all decorated, the shiny Christmas tinklets and baubles were pinned to it and the crib with the baby Jesus nestled in a bed of hay was all set to receive not just the three kings and the shepherds and the cattle and sheep grazing by.. but many more visitors including Barbie and Ken and spider man et all!!! But the most unexpected visitors were the ones I noticed the next morning.. Krishna and Radha!!! P, my daughter, had these dolls of Krisna and Radha that we bought from a handicrafts emporium a while ago.. They were her favourites for a while before she lost interest and moved on.. But just outside the manger.. even before the kings had a change to catch a glimpse of the baby.. were Krishna and Radha.. smiling benevolently at Christ the saviour..

This was the most lovely crib I have seen till today and in this season of charity and love .. I pray that the children (of tomorrow) will live up to these lovely dreams for our country (and the world perhaps)...

Where the mind is without fear and the head is held high;
Where knowledge is free;
Where the world has not been broken up into fragments by narrow domestic walls;...
Where the clear stream of reason has not lost its way into the dreary desert sand of dead habit;...
Into that heaven of freedom...let my country awake
