Choco

Choco: Walking to work with my ear plugs on and late as always I had my head bent down. I was rushing along with my mind racing ahead to the tasks waiting at work. I almost but missed this little bundle of joy. Bounding through the green grass, pretending to nibble, looking back to see if he was being watched. Pretending to be running away but worried about going too far, looking back to see if he was being watched, testing the boundaries of his freedom and waiting to be called back. And then he spotted me, a stranger, something new to befriend. He didn’t look scared but his eyes were curious, inquisitive, nosey and prying and inviting: a new experience, a new friend even if for a moment. How could I resist yanking off my earplugs and taking off my sun glasses and going down on my knees to get a good look at this little one? Glad to have the response he was looking for, now the tail wags vigorously, eager twinkling eyes measure me up, he goes down even further than his little stature. The message is clear; I need a pat and perhaps a little scratching behind my ears, and get a little lick in appreciation. some more wagging before he scooted off in a second in answer to a sharp call ‘choco’ (the most suited name). Just a minute it all took, but warmed up the heart for long after 
